Final Fantasy VII PC and ten mods with which to have our own Remake

We bring you a selection of Final Fantasy VII mods for your different computer versions in order to have your own Remake.

With Final Fantasy VII Remake just around the corner for PlayStation 4 – although with some delay – there will be many computer users who wish to play the reimagined adventure of Cloud, Barret and company. For them there is no news yet by Square Enix that the video game reaches machines with Windows operating system but at least they have the possibility to modify the original game and the existing one on Steam.

In this article we are going to address a series of modifications for Final Fantasy VII computer that will make the original look renewed, its music sound better or the translation is more understandable.

Some of these files that modify the original experience are simple to add while others require some expertise and a handy tutorial – included in each link – in order to get hold of it.

7th Heaven

This is the most used tool to inject modifications to the different versions of Final Fantasy VII distributed for PC. To add new mods these must be in the understandable format, IRO. Most of them are usually installed in the Mods folder of this tool although it is also possible to install them through the free store with which this program has.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

A note: adding mods that use 7th Heaven will lose the characteristics of saving in the cloud, trophies and the cheat tool that has the versions of Square Enix Store and Steam.

There are also programs to create your own modifications and add them to this useful tool and even publish them for it or on pages like Nexus.

Final Fantasy VII Remako HD

One of the most famous is Remako HD, a modification capable of increasing the resolution of pre-rendered environments and characters up to four times their original resolution. Its author, CaptRobau, ensures that the magic behind his work is found in the Gigapixel tool, a program that scans the images and tries to emulate the details that the original renderings could have but with more resolution.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

The installation is not simple, it requires multiple steps, but it is available for the original version distributed by Eidos, the one launched in 2012 in the Square Enix Store and for the Steam version. The bad? That when you install this modification you lose the achievement of achievements, games in the cloud and the cheat tool. Of course, its creator ensures that it is compatible with many other mods, so it is an excellent starting point to improve our original.

CHAOS

Another modification that affects the visual is CHAOS, a mod available for download on the Nexus Mods website that improves the polygon characterization of all the characters, giving them a less chibi look that is closer to the commercial artistic designs of the video game. The installation is quite simple and can be added to the game using or without the 7th Heaven tool.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

This mod has stopped updating but in theory it should work without problems since its author ended up with him in May 2019. There are, in addition, additional files that affect the weapons of Cloud and another with the possibility of replacing the protagonist with Zack. It works for the Steam version and, like Remako HD, disables the exclusive functions of the Valve platform.

Retranslation to Spanish

It is possibly the most essential of all, at least if we do not want to take our eyes off with the standard Castilian lexicon. This is a replacement of the original texts with a corrected XT Translations. With it the adventure is understood much better and there are no errors in the translation.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

The most surprising thing is that this modification is accompanied by bug fixes that the PlayStation game didn't have but that does contain the different PC versions. Especially in the section of music, video sequences or graphics. It can also be installed in both the Windows 98 version, the one sold by Square Enix Store and on Steam, although its creators warn that the one related to the 1998 operating system is the most difficult to apply.

FF7 SYW “ArkTsukiVock”

Although it is not an all-in-one like the ones mentioned above, the author provides us with the links of everything necessary for your selection to be easily installed. Well, it's easily a saying, because the user needs to have the 7th Heaven tool and know how to use it minimally.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

Thanks to this pack, players can enjoy Final Fantasy VII for PC with improved graphics in almost all areas, including video scenes. The final result is amazing although some scenarios are left with a somewhat exaggerated watercolor style. In this pack the chibi models of the characters are also replaced by more realistic ones.

Avatars of Tetsuya Nomura

Curious at least. This add-on is capable of changing the original avatars of the main menu protagonists by replacing them with illustrations by Tetsuya Nomura. There are different to choose from; of the video game FF7 G-Bike, Crisis Core, Opera Omnia or Ergheiz.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

For its installation there are three proposed steps: using the 7th Heaven tool, with Reunion R06 or using the 1998 video game and replacing the original textures and models. It is not the most surprising but at least it modernizes the menu for which we move so long.

Tsunamods Arranged Soundtrack

This mod completely changes the soundtrack of Final Fantasy VII for a somewhat more worked and rich in details. Its creator is Dracula9AntiChapel and you can preview the improved soundtrack on his YouTube channel.

To install it you need to download the file and enter it in the videogame using the 7th Heaven tool. Its author comments that the volume of this compilation is higher than usual, so he asks that if this is a problem, its volume be reduced individually within the game.

Final Fantasy VII OST Symphonic Remaster

Like the previous one, this Symphonic Remaster replaces the music of the game with one of more quality and with a more harmonious approach. It is not as electric as Tsunamods', nor does it have so many instruments – except exceptions – but it is very pleasant to listen to.

Its author is a sound engineer and has created very careful tracks on the technical side and has even allowed himself the luxury of adding different and better quality choirs for One Winged-Angel, the star theme of Final Fantasy VII. It is only necessary to extract the tracks and add them to the Steam version or the one distributed by the Square Enix Store.

New Threat Mod

Another gem is New Threat Mod, a modification that alters many features of Final Fantasy VII. From better defined statistics for each character, revision of the texts, new secondary missions, possibility to see the partners who are not in our group in other cities, balance in the progression curve or an exhaustive set-up of the subject – including new—, skills or improvements in equipment effects.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

They have practically taken the original game and improved it in all aspects. It can be installed in all versions manually or with 7th Heaven and even has a Spanish version. Its creators claim that it has even been added to other versions such as Android or Nintendo Switch.

DualShock in Final Fantasy VII Steam version

The menu to configure the pad for Final Fantasy VII is somewhat cumbersome and difficult to understand. Moreover, if we want to play the Steam version with a DualShock we will have problems to recognize it perfectly. With this modification it is possible to control Sony in its second, third and fourth versions to work without problems and without the Xinput driver.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

It is not really a modification, they are a series of programs that will make all the PlayStation controls mentioned above work without compatibility problems and can be used in the game. It requires a little patience to get it ready but it offers a more “exclusive” experience.

There is a wide catalog of modifications to mold Final Fantasy VII for computer to our liking. The Qhimm forums are full of creations of users who love the adventures of Cloud and in them you can find even files that modify the randomness of enemies or limit your game. However, many of them are also unfinished work or have errors not yet solved. And it is that when a customization likes and is pleasant among the public, those responsible are more involved in it until it is finished.

On the other hand you have to take into account that it is possible that there is incompatibility when introducing to your game two or more of these modifications since sometimes, different AddOns, modify the same file generating incompatibilities. In fact, Reunion and 7th Heaven do not usually get along very well.
