Final Fantasy VII Remake: Japanese actress who plays Tifa is threatened with death

The two architects of the threats, a man and a woman, have been denounced by the actress, whom they wanted to "stab".

Lending voice to video game characters can also be a dangerous job. Tell Ayumi Ito (or Square Enix), the actress who plays Tifa Lockhart from Kingdom Hearts II and who will return in Final Fantasy VII Remake, the reimagined version of the PlayStation classic. The interpreter received death threats from a man and a woman, whose identities have not transcended. However, the complaint is ongoing.

According to The Sankei News, quoted by Kotaku, in the early summer of 2019 a woman in her 20s sent threats to Ito through the website of the talent agency that represents her: “I hate her so much that I want to kill her,” he wrote. "I'm going to stab her in the back of my hand with all my strength." The Japanese media points out that this threat was sent by the actress's participation in a television series that has nothing to do with Square Enix's work.

That same month, a man in his 30s did the same, but this time through a video game company. The Sankei News does not name Square Enix directly, but states that it is the producers of the Final Fantasy series. “I want to stab her in the eyes and take them out of their basins with my knife,” commented the man, who demanded the dismissal of Ito and his replacement by another actress.

The investigations, meanwhile, indicate that the perpetrators of the threats do not maintain any ties with each other and are not known. Square Enix has not ruled on this, but the plans with Final Fantasy VII Remake remain unchanged, as it could not be otherwise.

The game, in development for PlayStation 4, will go on sale next March 3. This is the first episode of a video game that will expand over time and will be presented in various episodes, although the Japanese have not yet revealed their complete plans. The only official thing is that each of these deliveries will have a complete gaming entity.
