Phil Spencer visits The Initiative to test his first video game on Xbox

The head of the Xbox division visits one of the studies created specifically to nurture the platform.

Nobody knows what The Initiative prepares outside a very specific circle, that of the members of the studio, which also includes some Xbox managers, with Phil Spencer in the lead. The leader of the Microsoft videogames division has gone to the team's offices to see firsthand how the progress of his new title is going, not yet announced (it is expected to be presented in 2020)

It has been revealed by Drew Muray, former Insomniac Games (Ratchet and Clank, Sunset Overdrive and Resistance) and current chief designer of The Initiative. Through a tweet, the creative has highlighted the presence of the head of Xbox. "We've been fortunate to have Phil Spencer's visit to The Initiative, which came yesterday on a tour of the new studio to talk about where Xbox is heading." Also, "and more importantly, to take over and experiment with the game in action." Of course, the photo does not show anything that is cooked on the screen, because the map collects the television from behind.

The Initiative is a study created with the intention of providing new experiences within the Xbox ecosystem. In addition to incorporating veteran talents from the industry, the company seeks more personnel to carry out its next projects. Now that the new generation appears on the horizon, with Xbox Series X as Microsoft's bet, they also take into account their services. Xbox Game Pass, which has a catalog of more than 100 games, will be updated in February with Final Fantasy XV and Wolfenstein: Youngblood, although 2020 will house a much broader list.

The competition of the future, Sony and Nintendo?

The Initiative is a project of the future, a study that seeks to carry out new projects for Xbox. However, competition is also moving and services will mark their steps with a clear protagonist: the game in the cloud. In an interview with Protocol, Phil Spencer has reflected on the days ahead and has opined that in his view, neither Sony nor Nintendo will be the competitors of the future. For Redmond, companies that have invested in the cloud will take the reins, so Google and Amazon will be the competitors to beat.

Although the cloud will not be imposed in the medium term, Google Stadia has already come into play with a service that is still taking its first steps. Launched at the end of the year exclusively for the founders, the new technology giant intends to uncover all its features throughout 2020. Meanwhile, in the shadows, Project xCloud prepares its landing.
