Xbox Series X: Spencer promises they will make brave decisions

The manager reflects on the announcement during The Game Awards and says they will be bold during this next generation of consoles.

Phil Spencer knows that marketing will be fundamental in this race towards the next generation of consoles, where millions of players will decide from here to Christmas of 2020 if they will buy a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X, the options of Sony and Microsoft. The head of the latter has reflected on the announcement of his new machine, an announcement that "could have been a disaster."

How the Xbox Series X ad was managed, until then Project Scarlett

In an encounter with Gamertag Radio, the executive has revealed that from the marketing team there was someone who recommended them to do something they had never done before, something brave, daring. They know they are behind their rival right now: you had to take risks. This was the conversation he had with that person in charge:

“She got up in that room and said:‘ We should do something brave, something we haven't done before. Let's do it, we are not in a market position in which we would like to be during this last generation. I don't think we are going to alter or grow our business if we do the same again. Let's try to do new things, ”says Spencer.

The announcement "could have been a disaster"

Although the announcement was a success, judging by the figures and the percentage of positive comments, Spencer acknowledges that the impact of that trailer could have been the opposite.

“You have to make those decisions, and you do it without being sure of how things will work out,” he continues. “All the decisions we make now and at the launch… we will try to think about those things differently. In some of them we will succeed, in some others not, but we will definitely not be docile. We will be brave in what we try to do. ”

It should be said that Xbox Series X is already at the home of Phil Spencer, and has been since – at least – last December. He himself was responsible for communicating that he already had in his home a Project Scarlett, which is how we knew her at the time.

In Microsoft there is trust, in general. Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, commented that “we have an advantage with Project Scarlett” compared to its direct competitor, the Sony solution: PlayStation 5. “We want you to know when you invest on Xbox, you can bring back all that library of inherited content (…) For that reason we believe that we have an advantage with Xbox Project Scarlett, because our goal is that any game that runs on Xbox One can also run on Scarlett. ”

They will be games like Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, Battletoads, Age of Epires IV, Halo: Infinite, Wasteland 3, Psychonauts 2, Bleeding Edge, Flight Simulator, Gears Tactics, Ori and the Will of the Wisps and Minecraft Dungeon the main bastions of Microsoft for the new generation, which will feature Xbox Game Pass from day one. In this article we collect all confirmed games for Xbox Series X.
