The parent company of THQ Nordic will pay an initial payment of 150 million dollars for the purchase of the company.

Embracer Group, the company that owns THQ Nordic, has announced the acquisition of Saber Interactive, a company that has worked on projects such as Quake Champions, Halo: The Masterchief Collection, NBA 2K Playgrounds or Nintendo Switch adaptations of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Vampyr. The operation includes an initial disbursement of $ 150 million, subject to other variables and extras that can raise that amount to a limit of $ 375 million.

The company has announced through an official statement that Matthew Karch and Andrey Iones, founders of Saber Interactive and owners of the company will become two of the largest shareholders of Embracer Group. The study, which has 600 employees throughout its six offices, entered 105 million dollars during the year 2019. “Saber has been on our agenda for a long time, thanks to its long history of quality work. His ambitious movement around self-financing of projects in recent years has been particularly impressive, especially with World War Z, which has sold more than three million units, ”said Lars Wingefors, founder and CEO of Embracer Group.

According to Matthew Karch, CEO of the study, during his "19 years as an independent study", Saber has had different suitors. “With Embracer Group we have finally found our perfect partner. We cannot be more excited about the amount of projects we have dreamed together. ”

Why have you bought Saber Interactive?

Embracer Group has drawn up an expansion strategy that crystallized in the signing of an agreement on February 19, which ensures a substantial acquisition of Saber Interactive resources, which includes its studies in Russia, Sweden, Belarus, Spain and Portugal. “The group benefits from about 20 years of experience in the development of video games, during which they have developed relationships with the largest publishers, licenses and retailers in the video game industry. In addition, Saber Interactive enjoys deep knowledge based on self-financing and self-publishing of their games, ”says the statement.

The most recent title of Saber Interactive is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Nintendo Switch, a game that has just added graphic options, touch controls and cross-save functionality with PC (Steam and GOG).
