Riot Games (LOL) responds to news about the complaint of gender discrimination

The creators of League of Legends believe that indemnifying former employees with 10 million dollars is enough.

The complaint against Riot Games for alleged cases of gender discrimination took a turn when the company agreed to compensate all employees with a total amount of 10 million dollars (distributed among some 1000 women who worked at the company since 2014 until it closed the agreement). Nevertheless, the Department of Fair Employment (DFEH) and the Division of Compliance with Labor Standards (DLSE) have asked to increase that figure to 400 million dollars, something that Riot Games does not see with good eyes, since it thinks that it does not They have no basis.

This has been assured in a press release, in which they have also stressed their commitment to continue changing the culture that until then prevailed in the company. “Regarding the numbers raised by the DFEH, we will say again that it is not based on facts or reasons that can justify the level of exposure. We think that any contrary statement cannot be made in good faith. ” Riot points out that although they are going to try to improve their values, he has also made it clear that they are seen defending “against false narratives and unfair claims that do nothing to remedy the real difficulties of the current members” of the study.

Agreement and willingness to change

"Throughout this process, we have focused on reaching an agreement that is fair to all involved, while continuing to demotivate our commitment to the transformative journey in which we have been immersed for 18 months," says the note. The study understands that the agreement needs to go through a review process that will take time.

“We believe that the proposal is fair and adequate under these circumstances. We are committed to working collaboratively to reach a resolution that reflects our commitment to move forward together, but it has to be one that is justified by the facts, ”argue the creators of League of Legends and TeamFight Tactics. "Our position from the beginning has been to do things well for both the plaintiffs and Riot, so we will continue to do that."

The plaintiffs recently incorporated Genie Harrison, a lawyer who worked on the case against The Weinstein Company, also in the area of gender abuse and discrimination. "These brave women have cried out against sexism and gender inequality, so I want to make sure they are fairly compensated," Harrison explained.
