Hideo Kojima (Death Stranding) will receive the BAFTA Fellowship Award

The creator of Metal Gear Solid will receive the highest award for his creative contribution to the video game industry.

The British Academy of Cinematic Arts has announced that Hideo Kojima, director at Kojima Productions, will receive the BAFTA Fellowship at the awards gala to be held on April 2. The father of Metal Gear Solid, who recently published Death Stranding on PlayStation 4, will receive the award in recognition for his creative contribution to the industry, as announced by the agency on its website.

The Fellowship, they explain, is the "highest award given by BAFTA" to an individual for his "exceptional contribution to film, video games or television." Among the personalities that received the award are Kathleen Kennedy, Thelma Shoonmaker, Tim Schafer, Joanna Lumley, John Carmack, David Braben OBE, Helen Mirren, Rockstar Games, Julie Walters, Gabe Newell, Peter Molyneux, Vanessa Redgrave, Shigeru Miyamoto and Will Wright .

Words of thanks

“Thank you very much for this valuable BAFTA Fellowship award,” said Hideo Kojima. “I am very honored and would like to take this moment to reflect on the many predecessors that came before me, whom I deeply respect for their contribution to entertainment, whether in movies, television or games. I also want to thank those who have supported me over the years. I will continue with my commitment to create new and innovative paths that will advance the world of videogames. ”

On the other hand, Amanda Berry, chief executive of BAFTA, has acknowledged being delighted with the selection of Hideo Kojima, whom she has described as “pioneer creator” of many video games. "He is revered worldwide for his innovative work." His latest proposal, Death Stranding, retains the narrative approach, but adds numerous mechanics and a very particular game system.

Sam Porter Bridges is not just any dealer. He distributes his merchandise in a decrepit and ravaged United States by Death Stranding, where life and death intermingle and the creatures of the beyond torment those who still breathe. As a last breath of hope, it travels through the territory with the aim of reconnecting people.

Death Stranding will be released on PC next summer 2020, while BAFTA nominations will be unveiled months earlier, specifically on March 3.
