Activision's new battle royale mode debuts with spectacular numbers of simultaneous players and warns big names like Fortnite.

Call of Duty: Warzone is being a global success. After its first two days available on PS4, Xbox One and PC, Activision's new free-to-play battle royale – and independent of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, from which it was initially to be linked – has managed to reunite officially over 6 million players worldwide.

According to data reported by the North American firm itself, in just 24 hours that barrier has been exceeded, which shows that there is still interest in the battle royale genre beyond the undisputed leader, Fortnite, and that the Call of Duty license can explore other avenues and game modes while launching premium products on the market; following the same success of Modern Warfare at the end of 2019.

The first figures consulted on streaming portals such as Twitch already hinted that the fervor for Call of Duty: Warzone was being superlative. With nearly 500,000 simultaneous players on its first night, the game unseated titans like League of Legends, GTA V, or Fortnite itself. At the moment it is still there, tripling or quadrupling the figures of those mentioned.

In the absence of knowing if the business model chosen by the publisher is working (the number of players is not directly proportional to the individual spending of each player), the American giant has reason for optimism.
