BAFTA Awards will be held online due to coronavirus

The organization of the BAFTA Game Awards is forced to find this alternative before the high influx of public and nominees from all over the world.

On April 2, the BAFTA Awards were scheduled to take place, where games like Death Stranding, Luigi's Mansion 3, Control or Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice are nominated to win the Game of the Year award, but as we know, everything has changed in The last weeks. This is, of course, due to the coronavirus pandemic that has disrupted absolutely everything, and this ceremony, how could it be otherwise, is no exception, with which the organization has been forced to take alternatives to an event face-to-face.

Coronavirus continues to wreak havoc on events

In this way, the organization will organize a digital ceremony via streaming to “deliver” the BAFTA Awards, and it will take place on the exact same day at the same time originally planned. In short, the event will take place in the same way as usual.

BAFTA Awards will be held online due to coronavirus

In recent days we have seen how the coronavirus pandemic has affected public events around the world. BAFTA is also aware, choosing to hold a digital rather than a physical ceremony for the BAFTA Games Awards. The digital event will take place at the same time and date originally scheduled, and while the awards ceremony will continue in a certain way, it will do so without the public or the nominees present. Or as they say in their official note:

“Due to growing concerns about the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and the number of nominees who would have to travel from other countries, we have made the decision to change the format of the BAFTA Games Awards to be held next month, from a red carpet ceremony at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London to an online event broadcast via streaming, to be held on the same day it was originally scheduled. ”

The organizers are already getting in touch personally with all those involved, although surely they would already be well on notice. In recent weeks we have seen how various events related to video games have been canceled, from the Taipei Game Show in February to the postponement of the Game Developers Conference, to, of course, the definitive cancellation of E3 in Los Angeles to be held in June.
