Animal Crossing: New Horizons and four other simulators to play at home

With the launch of the new Nintendo video game, we combed the market and highlighted several of the titles of the genre that are on the market.

Life and its complications: mortgage, work, family commitments and stress. To add insult to injury, a new agent has now entered the equation, the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19), which is holding citizens of many countries around the world, including Spain, in seclusion. In these difficult times one of the most anticipated video games arrives on the market, which curiously is often attributed to its de-stressing capacity. This is Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a colorful title that invites us to live on a desert island.

Let no one expect a game like the movie Naúfrago (the one starring Tom Hanks), because we will not be alone. Together with the new neighbors, we will have in our hands the possibility of shaping the island territory to our liking, which means that we will be able to construct buildings, create tools and carry out all kinds of activities, all while interacting with the rest of the neighbors.

In the case of New Horizons, the multiplayer and social component is more important than ever, since up to eight friends can live on the same island, four on the same Nintendo Switch. But beyond Animal Crossing, there are other video games of the same genre, although with different approaches. Since not everyone has a Nintendo Switch, it is time to look for alternatives in the different systems. If you have to go through a quarantine, better cope with it in the virtual worlds of the following video games

Stardew valley

  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android

You receive a very special inheritance, nothing more and nothing less than a farm. According to the Romans (the aristocrats, of course) the field was a resting place, an idea that has come down to our time, since many people in the cities see it as an escape valve. However, working the land and caring for animals brings many vicissitudes: nothing is as simple as it seems. After the protagonist of Stardew Valley received his grandfather's farm, he will have to manage all the aspects inherent to the administration of the business. We will be able to build the farm of our dreams, cultivate and care for the animals.

To do so, you will need to learn the ins and outs of parenting, as well as fishing, planting, and object creation and improvement. But not everything is work, there is also space to interact with the more than 30 neighbors who live in the surroundings. That includes the possibility of looking for love and finding the ideal partner that allows you to start a family. Exploring caves and facing monsters will be another challenge that we will face. The ConcernedApe video game offers multiple customization options that focus on both the characters and the decoration of other elements.

The sims 4

  • Platforms: PC, PS4 and Xbox One

One of the veteran sagas of Electronic Arts continues to expand with news. The Sims 4, which was marketed in a distant 2014 (later, in 2017, saw the light on consoles), puts on the table the management of characters and the environments in which they live. In addition to building and managing the home, Maxis' work focuses on the relationships of the characters. Friendship and love is a key point of the proposal. In fact, it is possible to start a family, which will add a new layer of complexity, having to take care of children and worry about many other aspects of life.

By taking so long in the market, developers have prepared multiple expansions during all these years. It is not clear when they will decide to take the step towards a new generation, as much as the fifth installment has been rumored many times. The last of the expansions, which coincides with the franchise's twentieth anniversary, introduces mini-houses, an "ecological and less expensive" option, as well as "infinitely more welcoming," according to EA. At the moment, there are no plans to adapt the video game to Nintendo Switch.

My time at Portia

  • Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4 and Xbox One

The Chinese studio Pathea is responsible for this production for consoles and PC that embraces some of the topics of the genre. We travel to an island where we play a protagonist who we can edit to our liking. There he does not wait for his father's dilapidated workshop, an inheritance that he will have to take care of and develop. But while we are dedicated to these needs, that is, business management, we will approach the different neighbors to begin to strengthen our relationships.

The inhabitants of My time at Portia ask us for different orders, which entails the search for materials and the creation of the necessary tools to progress. We may work in a workshop, but that does not mean that we cannot dedicate ourselves to agriculture and livestock, two activities that will provide us with our own materials. Management, how could it be otherwise, is one of the crucial elements of the title.

Moonlighter

  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch

Trader by day, hero by night. This is the premise of the game developed by Digital Sun, a Spanish project that was born like many independent titles, in the free time of its creators. In a way, they transferred their way of life in the title: during the day, workers of a company; at night, video game creators. With time, the work began to take shape thanks to the triumph of the kickstarter, which allowed them to focus on their production. It is not a game like Animal Crossing, in the sense that it has an important component of adventure, which is to get the equipment to go into dungeons, destroy your enemies and unravel the mysteries of the game.

The funny thing is that the goods are used to sell them in our store, which, to the surprise of no one, Will (protagonist) receives as an inheritance from his family. With this duality, the proposal is not without difficulties and challenges, so it is better to be well equipped if we want to survive the harsh tests that will be before us.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will go on sale next April 20 exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
