The coronavirus, already a global pandemic, has aggravated the situation in the world of communication, sport and entertainment to the point of canceling practically all public events where the participation of people is contemplated. Thus, the GDC was also affected by the outbreak; but there is a new date after the suspension: from August 4 to 6. This will be the Game Developers Conference in 2020.
Under the name of GDC Summer 2020, those responsible for the Californian event, which will maintain its headquarters at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, have reconsidered a highly prestigious annual meeting between the union of developers, small and medium-sized companies in the video game sector , publishers and also journalists.
The approach will be slightly intervened because, obviously, in those six months apart, some of the video games that were going to be shown will have already been released; not to mention hardware. Microsoft and Sony this week unveiled the final technical specifications for the Xbox Series X and PS5, respectively, something they would have done at the GDC. However, it is expected that they will show something more about this new generation of consoles this August if they consider it appropriate.
Press passes, accreditations and tickets for the public are now on sale from the organization's official website. The Conference Pass, which gives access to all fair days, is priced at $ 599 if we want to also participate in conferences, talks and round tables. The Expo Pass, which allows access to the facilities without such conferences, costs $ 149.
PAX East and E3 2020, also canceled by the coronavirus
However, it is unknown if the PAX East 2020 will also relocate the celebration of the event or if, on the contrary, in this case we will really talk about a cancellation and not a suspension. This event was also to take place in March in Boston, Massachusetts, but the events of COVID-19 precipitated preventive decisions.
Another renowned event, the most important in the sector, is E3, also canceled. The organization of E3 2020, ESA, is now contemplating the coordination of a digital E3 where the publishing companies involved in the fair agree to maintain their conference plan, but under the protection of the audiovisual format. It is unknown if this idea will come to fruition.
