PS5: Sony corrects backward compatibility information, over 4000 PS4 titles playable

Playfront

The first information about the downward compatibility of the PS5 this week was somewhat sobering at first. So Sony said that only the top 100 games of the PS4 will be launched on the PS5.

This is of course very little compared to the Xbox Series X, on which every Xbox One game will run. Sony has therefore corrected the information on the PS5 again and now speaks of over 4000+ PS4 titles that can be played on the PS5. So at least the expectations of it.

An updated statement states:

“With all of the exciting games in the PS4 catalog, we've made a huge effort so that our fans can play their favorites on PS5. We believe that the vast majority of the over 4,000 PS4 titles will be playable on PS5. ”

The previously mentioned top 100 games only refer to those that have already been tested with the PS5 and benefit from the boat function, among other things. However, these may need to be adjusted beforehand and are therefore not immediately available.

“We expect backward-compatible titles to run on PS5 at a higher frequency so they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and possibly higher resolutions. We're currently evaluating games title by title to identify issues that need to be adjusted by the original software developers. ”

This point, PlayStation architect Mark Cerny already mentioned this week that the games will be gradually tested and adapted. Of course, this takes some time, of which there is still enough until the launch of the PS5.

“In his presentation, Mark Cerny took a snapshot of the 100 most played PS4 titles and demonstrated how well our backward compatibility efforts are going. We have already tested hundreds of titles and are preparing to test thousands more as we get closer to launch. ”

There will be further backward compatibility updates and more PS5 news in the coming months.
