Coronavirus: Konami did not allow Sergi Roberto to participate in the Ibai Llanos charity tournament

Sergi Roberto was going to participate in a charity tournament organized by Caster Ibai Llanos, but he finally had to retire.

Ibai Llanos, one of the most important casters and influencers in the field of esports, organized a charity tournament to raise funds for the coronavirus crisis (COVID-19). The FIFA 20 tournament had La Liga players as protagonists, but as revealed by Diario AS, FC Barcelona international Sergi Roberto should have represented the Blaugrana club in the championship. However, the agreement between Konami and the entity prevented the player from participating.

Although Barça is present in both FIFA 20 and eFootball PES 2020, the contract signed by both parties provides some exclusive advantages to the Japanese company's title, such as the inclusion of the Camp Nou, the stadium of FC Barcelona. With that agreement in force, the midfielder has been forced to leave the tournament, which has finally had 18 of the 20 teams (Alejandro Pozo, from Mallorca, has also been unable to play, for the same reason), each represented by one of the players in each set.

Resounding success of the initiative

The charity championship has been a success. Ibai Llanos and the rest of the participants have been able to raise 140,000 euros for UNICEF. The Spanish caster chose an ideal eleven led by legendary players such as Zidane or Ronaldo, although other professionals who are still active, such as Marcelo or Neymar, also appeared. In the tournament, players play matches against community squads, while earning battle points and moving up the leaderboard.

FIFA 20 strengthened relations with Ibai Llanos, who lends his voice to the comments of the VOLTA Soccer mode. Furthermore, the contract between Konami and FC Barcelona is valid for several years and will expire in 2023; that of Mallorca will end this June 30. The decision to prevent the players from lending their support to caused outrage in the community, which does not see favorably in this situation proceeded in this way.
