The Nintendo 64 and PC classic returns with a version that includes additions to the original title, also available on GOG.

Darth Vader's origins began to be explored in Star Wars Episode I, a controversial film that still today divides fans of the saga created by George Lucas. However, one of the video games based on the feature film remains in the collective imagination as one of the best adaptations to the medium. Star Wars Episode I: Racer will head to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on May 12, as announced by its producer, James Vicari, in an interview published on the official Star Wars site.

For Vicari, "good games should never be forgotten" and they rock "be replayed as much as possible". Like "Jedi Outcast or Jedi Academy," says Vicari, "it has two crucial qualities: It is a great title and it leaves an emotional mark." According to the producer, this kind of product has the ability to bring together the users of yesteryear and to attract the attention of new players, who perhaps did not have the opportunity to try it in their day.

Highly configurable controls

The return of Star Wars Episode I: Racer comes with new features when it comes to controls. In the Nintendo 64 era, they had to adapt to the functionalities of that time (vibration, analog sticks, the shape of the controller, etc.). With Switch, for example, they have done the same. "What you want is to make sure the title plays well and allows for as many control variations as possible." Vicari says they have worked hard to add many control options, to the point that it is possible to play with a single Joy-Con.

Star Wars Episode I: Racer will maintain one of its characteristics of the time, the split screen for multiple players, an element that has been lost as the online modes have been consolidated. It is up to the podracer and … may the force be with us … always!
