Behind Final Fantasy VII Remake: Sefirot was designed inspired by the movie Shark

More than twenty years apart, the reimagining of the famous PlayStation title comes to PS4 with new intentions and changes.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is now on sale worldwide for PS4. The title, one of the most anticipated remakes of all time in the modern industry of the sector, has changes from the original that we will not comment on here, but that Yoshinori Kitase himself, director of the original title and producer of this new work , he detailed in a meeting with Kotaku. To highlight, the inspirations to recreate Sefirot.

Back in 1975, Steven Spielberg signed a film that went down in the history of cinema with Shark, a tape where that animal knew itself as a constant threat, a being that made everyone present not to have the feeling that they did not they could stop looking back. And this is how Sefirot was conceived, as a kind of Shark.

“The way we take Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII through hiding him, holding him back. You may not know it, but I was inspired by the movie Shark for its similar approach to bringing about that powerful presence, but it never fully showed you the shark until later in the story. We wanted to shape him as a really big and powerful character in the minds of others. By referring only to him but indirectly, a feeling of fear and oppression was created, so that when he makes his first appearance, it is a great moment, "says Kitase.

Why Part 1 only covers Midgar

For those who have doubts, Yoshinori Kitase himself has explained the real reason why this game, Part 1 of the remake, only goes until the end of the act in Midgar. There is an explanation, although it is twofold: the transcendence and range of opportunities offered by this place, with a superlative importance for the study; and that it was the best option so that the project could “aspire to the highest possible quality with an extended history”.

As for that Part 2, its development will begin this April: there will be no breaks. Of course, it is unknown how many parts there will be because, as the Japanese team has recognized, they do not know it at this point.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is now available on the PlayStation 4 family of consoles; You can download the free demo of the game here. The exclusivity condition will remain until April 10, 2021; thereafter, it may be launched on other platforms. You can also read our Reviews and consult the complete guide we have made.
