Final Fantasy VII Remake and difficulties in making changes to the original

Inside Final Fantasy VII Remake delves into the story and characters in a new video

Two of the main people in charge of the title reflect on the development and complexities to add and maintain original aspects.

With Final Fantasy VII Remake now on sale worldwide for the PS4 family of consoles, Square Enix's official website has released an interview with Naoki Hamaguchi and Yoshinori Kitase, co-director and producer of the title, respectively. In the meeting, one of the most remarkable aspects is found in the interpretation that the work has given as authors when it comes to balancing the novelties that were not in the original and the aspects that they have had to keep intact.

"The gaps in the story of the original Final Fantasy VII felt somewhat erratic"

“To explain our philosophy, it was really based on being respectful of the original game; but then what were the elements of the original game that we had to reimagine to create a more immersive experience, ”asked Hamaguchi. “Many of the additions to the story come from ourselves trying to fill in the gaps left in the original game; content that was not included then because we could not show it in full with the technology we had at the time. ” The limitations, however, deprived Squaresoft of adding some of the things that have been present in Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Yoshinori Kitase expands to say that “some of the transitions and gaps in the original Final Fantasy VII story felt somewhat erratic or not entirely smooth. To deal with it in the remake, we put in new elements to make the story feel more cohesive. ” And he ends up adding that "in this way, you cannot make a completely clear distinction between what is new and what comes from the original game" because "it is all mixed to make an independent story in this first game of the project", since One of the objectives is to make Part 1 of Final Fantasy VII Remake feel like a complete game, with a beginning and an end, added to a sufficient amount of content according to the standards of the JRPG genre.

Square Enix does not know how many parts there will be for this reimagination of the original work, only that there will be more than one. Regarding Part 2, its development will begin this April, without breaks, although we do not know when the next episode will be released or on the platforms on which it will.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is now available on PlayStation 4, where it will be exclusive until April 10, 2021; thereafter, you will be able to see the light on other platforms. You can read our Reviews and consult the complete guide we have made.
