Ubisoft open to change dates on games if PS5 and Xbox Series X are delayed

Yves Guillemot takes a long-term vision and assumes that they must be prepared to act sensibly on any stage by COVID-19.

Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, is aware that the coronavirus can change any will to launch a video game on the planned date. The delays already known and those that may occur in titles currently in development are only the consequence of a health crisis that has paralyzed, to a greater or lesser extent, non-essential work activities and has forced remote work; that has advantages and disadvantages. In the event that PS5 and Xbox Series X are not released in 2020, the Ubisoft catalog will be examined accordingly.

"We are not identifying a significant impact in our marked times," begins the manager in a meeting with the New York Times. "But we are in contact with all our partners because, if the need arises to adjust to be able to make those that are best for them and for our players, we will do it."

Now what has Ubisoft up and running?

We have to go to the latest official financial report from Ubisoft published last February to find out what the company is currently running and what is, therefore, likely to see its launch plan altered at a later date. As indicated in its meeting with the group of shareholders, the French giant maintained the objective of launching a total of five AAA video games before the end of the current fiscal year (March 31, 2021), although they assured that three of those games will arrive sooner to end 2020; specifically, between the months of October and December.

Watch Dogs Legion, Rainbow Six Quarantine, Gods and Monsters
Watch Dogs Legion, Gods and Monsters and Rainbow Six Quarantine; confirmed for fiscal year 2020-21

We do not know which three Ubisoft titles are scheduled to arrive between October and December 2020, but this is what they indicated in the past of the games that they did explicitly name; We will not comment on those who do not have a specific window: Watch Dogs Legion, Rainbow Six Quarantine and Gods and Monsters.

  • Watch Dogs Legion – between April 2020 and March 31, 2021
  • Rainbow Six Quarantine – between April 2020 and March 31, 2021
  • Gods and Monsters – between April 2020 and March 31, 2021

In the absence of knowing a specific window of Beyond Good and Evil 2, Skull and Bones and Roller Champions; as well as an eventual new episode of Assassin’s Creed or Far Cry, not announced at the moment, so is the Ubisoft calendar unless otherwise indicated. It should be added that, with the cancellation of E3 2020, the company has free way to announce its titles in other scenarios or in a totally independent way.
