Square Enix has released the first installment of Final Fantasy VII Remake, a video game that reimagines the classic and that has several of the key figures in its development. In an interview published in the Final Fantasy VII guide Remake Ultimania (translation from Japanese courtesy of Aitakimochi), director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase have spoken at length about the project, a title that will follow the main lines of the original. For its creators, it is only a fifth of the Compilation of FFVII.
Final Fantasy VII Before Crisis, Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus were the video games that explored other aspects of the game's history, in addition to the movie Advent Children. "We knew we wanted to make a fifth installment" of the compilation, says Tetsuya Nomura. “However, we were a little bare of resources, since I was the only one leading the project. Since we were busy with other things, the project was frozen. ”

From an external team upon his return to Square Enix
Yoshinari Kitase adds that when they thought about what they could do for the twenty-second anniversary of the saga, the possibility of starting this new adventure came up again. The two met with producer Shinji Hashimoto and made the decision to make the production a reality. At first it was done together with another external developer, Cyberconnect 2, but Square Enix ended up returning the development to its internal teams.
"Of course the main team of the company was involved in the development, but most of the people who had worked in the Final Fantasy saga were in other projects, so we started the Remake with another external team," he says. Kitase. However, they wanted to ensure product quality and preferred developers with experience in the franchise to be in the lead. "So we had to make a big change in staff positions to accommodate this production."
Final Fantasy VII Remake has been available on PlayStation 4 since April 10. Square Enix is already working on the next chapter in the saga.
