Sony will close SingStar servers in early 2020

From January 31, it will not be possible to "download new songs" or use any of the online features of the video game.

We know that singing in the shower destroys the eardrums of those around us, but nothing compared to doing it with SingStar, the popular karaoke game of PlayStation. However, those who enjoy their online aspect should know that it will disappear very soon. Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the servers will close on January 31, 2020. What will that mean for the player?

For now, none of the online functions will be operational. You can enjoy the game if you have the editions in physical format or if you have the songs in digital format, of course you will first have to make sure that you have “bought them beforehand” or have them stored on the hard disk. However, if you forget to download them before that date, not everything will be lost. PlayStation 4 users can download deleted themes, something that is not contemplated for PS2 and PS3.

What can and cannot be done?

All SingStar players will continue to have access to Play Party mode and will be able to record and take a look at their own records, of course locally. Videos and captures that are recorded will not be uploaded to the online platform, but will be stored on the hard drive. It will be possible to create lists of songs, although the following characteristics are canceled:

  • You will not be able to view, upload or interact with any online content generated by users.
  • You will not be able to share multimedia files on any of the public platforms (Facebook, Twitter, PSN, SingStar community).
  • You will not be able to register your records online.
  • You will not be able to get the following trophies: Channel surfer, Concert debut, Stars in my eyes, SingStar.

SingStar is one of the most veteran PlayStation experiences. He debuted on PS2 and became a service at the time of PS3. It has also had a presence on PS4.
