Nintendo Switch reaches 55.77 million units sold

Nintendo's home console overcomes this huge barrier and reaches Nintendo's financial goals despite the coronavirus crisis.

Nintendo Switch has exceeded 55.77 million units sold. Nintendo revealed during the presentation of the financial results corresponding to the last quarter of the fiscal year ended last March 31 (Q4 FY2020) that the hybrid machine has added 3.29 million consoles plus the last quarter; while in that period from January to March they add another 45.62 million games sold.

21 million Nintendo Switch units sold this fiscal year

Likewise, the firm headed by Shuntaru Furukawa has offered the first sales forecast for the 2020-21 financial year with a forecast of around 19 million units distributed by Nintendo Switch. A figure that would closely resemble those of recent years and, therefore, although they acknowledge that the console has reached the middle of its life in the market, they do not foresee that its implementation will begin to decline in the next twelve months thanks to the next lineup of games that are announced.

In any case, it is less than the 21 million units sold between April 2019 and March 2020, an unprecedented figure beyond the golden age of Wii-NDS.

If we look at each member of the Nintendo Switch family separately, it should be noted that the standard model accumulates 49.57 million of the total distributed since 2017, with 14.83 million in the year 2019-20. The only portable solution, Nintendo Switch Lite, has had less acceptance, which adds a million units more this last quarter and stands at 6.19 million units since its launch last September.

In terms of software, the brilliant debut of Animal Crossing: New Horizons stands out, reaching in record time the figure of 13.41 million units sold; 11.77 million copies in just eleven days. In just a month and a half it is already the sixth best-selling game on the console.
