Capcom plans to launch “major titles” before March 31, 2021

The Japanese company will also focus on taking its sagas beyond video games, such as the Monster Hunter movie.

Following the release of Resident Evil 3 Remake, its first success of 2020, Capcom has taken stock and presented its financial results. As usual in these reports, the companies reveal their plans for the following months. Additionally, they report that they will focus on launching “major titles” before March 31, 2021.

According to the document, its goal for the third quarter of the fiscal year is to reach a new record of 28 million units in sales. Of those 28 million units, 18 will be from titles released prior to this period. The remaining 10 million will come from video games released during that period.

Another goal is to obtain economic revenue from old video games that are still on the market, as well as to promote the aspect of esports. The report also notes that Resident Evil 3 Remake has sold 2.5 million units worldwide, while the cumulative figure for Monster Hunter: World is 15.5 million units.

How many games are they going to release?

Regarding the number of news that Capcom is preparing for the coming months, we must take into account a data provided by analyst Daniel Ahmad. The company plans to launch 13 new Sku this fiscal year, he says. This compares to 35 for fiscal year 19/20 and 61 for 18/19. 1 Sku is equivalent to one launch per platform, so for example, in the case of Resident Evil 3 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One or PC, the equivalent is 3 Sku. "So essentially, there are only 10 Sku left for this year." His conclusion is that we don't expect too many titles.

The report indicates that the company will seek expansion outside the video game industry with different strategies. In addition to the Monster Hunter-based movie, he will perform orchestral concerts and collaborate with coffee shops and pachinkos. On the other hand, the Monster Hunter brand is going to be promoted in different business areas. This includes, of course, their mobile game.
