The Witcher: CD Projekt RED says they may pick up Ciri's story in the future

The Polish developer regrets not having delved into this character enough during the narration of the third installment of the saga.

The Witcher has become a best-selling saga. The Projekt RED CD game based on Andrzej Sapkowski's novels premiered the first season of the Netflix series late last year, but far from being forgotten, the studio is already thinking about the future of the franchise. In a recent question and answer session, a follower asked about the possibility of Ciri continuing as the protagonist of the new video game. Jakub Szamałek, writer, dropped after retaking Ciri's story is a possible option.

"I'm sorry we didn't explore Ciri's past any more," explains the writer, referring to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. "He is an incredibly rich and complex character." According to Szamałek, "for obvious reasons" (basically that the character does not appear during long portions of the game), "he did not receive as much screen time as the writers" would have liked. However, he admits, "perhaps it is something that" they retake in the future.

What is known about a hypothetical Witcher 4?

That The Witcher is going to have continuity in one way or another is something that CD Projekt RED has not hidden. Now, everything seems to indicate that the study will leave Geralt of Rivia aside to present new stories within the universe of the game. Without the warlock as the protagonist, several interesting characters are free, such as Ciri herself. It remains to be seen what direction they choose.

What is clear is that before Geralt and company raise their weapons again, the developer will focus on her next production, Cyberpunk 2077. This science fiction title is scheduled for September 17 and will go on sale on PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X, PC and Google Stadia. The company has also planned a long-term roadmap that includes at least two major expansions, as happened with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
