The P Studio and Atlus video game manages to exceed SEGA's expectations in the western market, but not in Japan, below expectations.
SEGA Sammmy Holdings confirmed during the last financial meeting held this May 13 with its investors that Persona 5 Royal has exceeded initial sales expectations in Europe and the United States. During the top management Q&A, SEGA stated that this latest iteration of the series, an improved and expanded version of the fifth numbered episode, has "broken sales records."
According to the document: “Although sales in physical format were limited” by the coronavirus (COVID-19), which caused restrictions on the distribution of physical units worldwide during the first quarter of 2020, “the Digital sales ratio grew significantly and they are staying strong during fiscal year 2021 ”which will end on March 31, 2021.
SEGA hopes, however, that the commercial performance of Persona 5 Royal will continue in the current direction, although no details have been disclosed about eventual price reductions or a consequent promotional campaign in the summer days of the current calendar. They just trust me to continue at this rate.
In Spain, according to the CEO of Blade, Rubén Mercado, in a meeting with Nacho Requena, Persona 5 Royal has sold about 1,000 units until last April, which must add to the 11,900 that the original Persona 5 achieved in our country. released in Spain in 2017 for PS4. According to the analyst, these are "very good" figures for the title, which in this latest version first came translated into Spanish.
Japan: sales below SEGA expectations
This has not been the case in Japan, however. The Atlus video game failed to meet the estimates deposited by SEGA in this release; at least until last February, when the Japanese company published its financial report for the last quarter of 2019. Persona 5 Royal for PS4 has sold in Japan, as reflected by the most recent data that we have been able to access through the database of Famitsu data, about 245,000 units. For its part, the original version of Persona 5 (added to all the reissues published in the Japanese country since September 2016) managed to sell more than 405,000 copies.
