The Command & Conquer Remastered Collection, the remaster of the two original installments of the celebrated RTS saga, arrives on the market in two weeks and fans of the franchise can not be more than congratulations with this new and recent announcement by those responsible; and it is confirmed by Petroglyph and Electronics Arts that they will share the source code of both titles so that the modder community can create their own variants through mods, thus preserving their spirit and allowing maximum potential at the creation level.

Maximum potential in mod creation

Today we are proud to announce that, alongside the launch of the Remastered Collection, Electronic Arts will publish the TiberianDawn.dll and RedAlert.dll files, and their corresponding source code, under the GPL version 3.0 license. This is a key moment for Electronic Arts, the C&C community, and the video game industry, as we believe this will be one of the first major real-time strategy franchises to open the GPL-licensed source code, ”they state in a Official publication through the official website of the video game.

And it is that both Command & Conquer from 1995 and Command & Conquer: Red Alert from 1996 have a huge amount of mods developed by the community almost since its launch, precisely, one of the great attractions of the saga to make each title an almost infinite adventure.

In addition, its managers ensure that such functionality will be available in both the Steam and Origin versions, both for PC only. “For Steam players, we use the Steam Workshop to share maps and mods. Players can subscribe to maps and mods directly from the in-game community center on Steam or use the in-game menus to browse / download content. Origin players can use the same process in-game to download maps, but they will have to manually install the mods in their respective folders outside of the game. In both versions, once you are in the game, you will be able to access the Options / Mods tab where you can activate the mod ”, they conclude.

Command & Conquer Remastered Collection will be available from June 5 only on PC with all its downloadable packs, interface improvements, a renewed multiplayer mode, map editor, unpublished sequences and much more, in addition to the aforementioned mod support.
