Capcom "has not yet fully surrendered" with Deep Down

Yoshinori Ono updates the state of the game, a mysterious Action RPG announced in 2013 with PS4 and disappeared in combat for years.

As Yoshinori Ono himself acknowledges, "there is not much to say about him", but Capcom "has not given up at all" with Deep Down. The well-known Street Fighter producer has granted an interview to EuroGamer in which, among other things, he has talked about the mysterious RPG, updating his status for the first time since he disappeared again in combat. "Obviously the original team is no longer attached to the project, but people may have noticed that we still have the trademark and that means we have not given up at all."

It was announced alongside PS4

Announced the same day that PlayStation 4 was presented there by February 2013, Deep Down was born as a display of the graphic potential of the Panta Rhei engine, which Capcom intended to use this generation and finally also ended up in the closet. It was an Action RPG similar to Dark Souls that was not known until the end of 2014, when it appeared in the Tokyo Game Show of 2014 with a playable demo for attendees and the announcement that it would also be multiplayer and free to play . After the Deep Down fair it disappeared again and its producer, Yoshinori Ono, spent all of 2015 ensuring that it was mutating and becoming something “much bigger” than they had originally expected. Since then the only news that has generated the title are those of its brand being renewed.

The Ono update, which they came to call Mr. Deep Down, confirms that the project is stopped and without equipment, but does not lose faith. "They had not called me Mr. Deep Down in a while," he told his interviewer. “We developed the concept a bit more than what was seen at the Tokyo Game Show 2014, but you know. There is not much I can say about him. Every year we study what games we are going to do in the future and approve projects with which we engage and move on, ”concluded Ono. Who knows, maybe one day Deep Down will be approved again in one of those meetings? Maybe in the PlayStation 5 presentation? As our partner Pedro Herrero recalled a few weeks ago, we must not forget that Nioh was announced in 2004 and launched in 2017, and today people are already waiting for its sequel. It's never too late?
