The Last of Us Part 2: enemy AI reacts better to stealth, according to Naughty Dog

The co-director of the video game compares the artificial intelligence of his new title with respect to the original title of PlayStation 3.

Sometimes the best solution is silence, slipping quietly onto the enemy's back and sticking the knife without your other friends (infected or not) noticing. In The Last of Us Part 2, the new production of Naughty Dog, that stamp will be as common as in the first installment. Anthony Newman, co-director of the title along with Neil Druckmann, has been interviewed by Ungeek and revealed that artificial intelligence performs best in this sequel when the player uses stealth to clear the stages.

In The Last of Us Part 2, he explains, if a friend is killed by Ellie with an arrow and another sees it, it will automatically go into a state of alert, as it could not be otherwise. "But they shouldn't know exactly where (that arrow) comes from. There is that kind of intermediate state ”in which the rival realizes what is happening, but fails to identify where the threat comes from. "So when you play the title, you will hear enemies say things like, 'I think it came from there,'" without being sure of the location.

The difference with the first chapter

"In The Last of Us 1, if you killed someone with a weapon like a bow, you had expectations that no one would discover where you were." However, if any of them witnessed the death of a partner, "they immediately detected your location." This is so because in that title there were only two states: either they had no idea where you were or the entire squad knew exactly where you were hiding, without an average.

The new Naughty Dog is committed to accessibility and offers more than 60 options designed to open the gaming experience to all types of players. The game will go on sale next June 19 exclusively for PS4.
