The creative cautions that viewers shouldn’t expect a happy marriage to children story for these two characters.
The first season of Netflix’s The Witcher premiered in late 2019, but the new chapters won’t be ready until 2021. Still, interest in stories set in the Andrzej Sapkowski universe has not waned. Geralt de Rivia, protagonist of the novels, video games and series, maintains a turbulent relationship with the enchantress Yennefer de Vengerberg. Lauren S. Hissrich, showrunner of the series, has given more details about what we can expect from their relationship in fiction: no happy endings.
“Time is something very different for them, so they are not going to get married or settle down to have children,” he said on the 3rd and Fairfax: Writers’ Guild of America West podcast. “They have short bursts of their sexual relationships” that can cause them to look for and visit each other, “but by the time they return, that person may be dead,” he reflects. The showrunner recalls that there is no “really happy ending” for them in the books either. “It is a sweet dream, but it is not realistic. Those people are never going to be a farmer ”or take care of the sheep. “They both have that kind of desire to live between life and death.”
How are the characters?
Geralt of Rivia is a mutant character. As a young man, he passed the tests, his hair turned gray and he became a wizard. In his condition, he is dedicated to fulfilling contracts and defeating monsters with his powerful sword (and his prowess). Yennefer, on the other hand, forged his powers little by little, after going through a childhood and youth full of rejection due to his physical malformations.
Netflix’s The Witcher is based on the novels, not the CD Projekt RED video games. The Polish studio is currently working on Cyberpunk 2077, although it also envisions a future for warlock games. Of course, perhaps Geralt is not the protagonist.
