Xbox downplays Perfect Dark and Fable's Twitter activity: it's routine

Aaron Greenberg steps up to the rumors and confirms that this is standard procedure to ensure control of inactive accounts.

When the journalist Tom Warren, from The Verge, discovered the Twitter accounts of Fable and Perfect Dark, rumors about possible new titles from both sagas soon emerged. The former has not stopped ringing in recent months, while Rare’s original title has been in limbo for many years (and has just celebrated its 20th anniversary). Still, some of those hopes have been shattered after Aaron Greenberg, general manager of the Xbox division, responded to the journalist’s tweet and ironed out the matter. According to the manager, it is a simple routine strategy to maintain the accounts of these intellectual properties on social networks.

“I know everyone is hungry for news, but I am sorry we gave you false hope. These accounts have been inactive for years. It is standard practice to protect social media accounts from our IPs, ”Greenberg has written. Therefore, that these accounts have been registered does not mean in any case that the internal Microsoft teams are working on projects related to Fable or Perfect Dark. Warren, however, points to the fact that they were registered in March and June 2020.

Xbox Game Studios, a network of teams that does not grow

Evil tongues speak of a Fable project by Playground Games, those responsible for the Forza Horizon saga. Although Microsoft acquired the studio in ownership, it has not been officially confirmed that they are developing a new chapter in the saga originally created by Lionhead Studios, the late Peter Molineux company. That said, Redmond’s have been reinforced with new developers to continue expanding their network of internal projects. The intention is to nurture the Xbox ecosystem of new software across all supported platforms.

With Xbox Series X on the horizon, the North American company wants to ensure that it offers its entertainment to as many users as possible. That strategy crystallized with Xbox Game Pass, one of the subscription services in which they have invested the most and which will naturally continue to be one of the pillars of the new generation.
