We recommend the first steps to take in My Team, one of the star and most played modes of the franchise and with many changes in NBA 2K21.
One more season does not miss one of the most renowned franchises of all sports, and NBA 2K21 is already among us. At least the version for current consoles, since, as we know, it will be available from the launch day of PS5 and Xbox Series X, and we can improve it without paying it at full price by now getting the Mamba Forever edition. But until that moment arrives, which we don’t even know when it will be specifically, we have many weeks ahead of us to enjoy the current version, especially with a My Team mode that has been remodeled on many fronts and whose progress will be maintained at 100% facing the next gen, something that does not happen with My Player.
In fact, My Team has changed so much that our way of approaching this mode probably has to do as well, completely different from other seasons. Let’s see why.
Before you start … get used to the Pro Stick
“A change in gameplay is a new aspect to master,” said Mike Wang, Gameplay Director, at the virtual presentation we were able to attend just over a week ago. Indeed, it is not easy at all, if we are used to using the action buttons to shoot to the basket, do it now with the right stick, but we will have no choice. At least in the first hours it will be really difficult to get our first shots in the green, so much so that we should not rule out a patch in the coming weeks. Even with everything, it is an aspect that adds difficulty and demand to the game, something that is always appreciated.
The first decision: who to choose in the Starter Pack?
Like every season lately, when starting in My Team in NBA 2K21 we are given the option to choose a Starter Pack featuring an Evo card from a great NBA star, and here is the first decision we must make. We have to be realistic and aware that, whatever card we choose, in the end it will not be so important, since it will not take long to get a better one, but it will not hurt for our first steps. The options are: Allen Iverson, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Garnett and Shaquille O’Neal, all of them Esmeralda, with evolution until Rubí.
Our advice is to choose Shaquille O’Neal for a number of reasons. The simple thing is that a pivot is a great pillar on which to start building a squad, but for our next few hours there are others. For example, we would discard Anthony, since one of the first rewards of the Season, Rick Fox, shares a position with the current Blazers player, and we will have to carry out a few challenges – not easy – with Fox to get experience and continue advancing in the Season. Something similar happens with Garnett, since in fact the first reward is an Anthony Davis Free Agent, being able to later get a letter from Antoine Walker -also power forward- with which, again, it will be necessary to perform various challenges. We will rule out Iverson and Wade for being two very well covered positions in the token market, our main way of getting cards early.
How to improve my squad?
In previous seasons, the best way to start getting better cards was to play the Domination matches, since they were relatively easy and we could get good rewards to advance. That has radically changed this season, since to get the three stars in each game, which would give us access to a player card, you have to beat Hall of Fame difficulty, something that, plain and simple, is quite an adventure with the template that we will handle at the beginning. So … where do we start to play?
Simple: despite a bug still to be fixed after trying to open the vault, in Triple Threat Offline. Mainly, because the first games will be simple, and what is more important, we can obtain the first tokens to get Emerald cards from the market, among which there are several very succulent. We would go, first of all, for Klay Thompson, a card that not only has good parameters in shooting –although not so much his insignia-, as it could not be otherwise, but also in defense. Behind him, Bobby Jackson seems like a good option, and in this way, we already have our base and guard outside duo, hence our advice not to choose Iverson or Wade in the Starter Pack.
Discover the Seasons
We have already mentioned them in passing, but one of the great novelties of MY Team in NBA 2K21 is the Seasons, which work in a similar way to how we have already seen in other games such as Fortnite or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, with The exception is that, fortunately, in this case we will not find any kind of paid battle pass. How do we get experience and advance? The best way to do it is to complete the challenges that we will find in the section Agendas of the Season, where there will be both daily and general, so it is convenient to take a look at them whenever we play.
As we said before, there are a series of challenges to complete with the reward cards of the Season –Anthony Davis, Rick Fox, Antoine Walker, Tony Parker… -, with which they will be cards that we will use a lot in the coming weeks. This means that we must take into account what cards we want to do in other ways, and that they do not share a position with any of these and thus they can overlap.
These are the first steps to take yes or yes in My Team, which we will take in just one or two hours. In future texts we will revisit this mode and we will give you some more advanced tips in order to get higher and higher rewards.
