Legends of Runeterra: this is the new expedition mode

The variant of draft modes for the Riot game.

Following the road map that was shown to us as a result of the celebrations during the last month of the tenth anniversary of the popular League of Legends, from November 14 at 5:00 p.m. (Madrid time) and for 5 days, players can participate – or at least try – in a new preview of Legends of Runeterra, the bet of Riot Games for card games collectible with battles. It will be, in principle, the last time the game will be seen before the launch of the closed beta, scheduled for the first quarter of 2020.

Apart from providing the gaming experience we saw during the first preview, the American developer now wants to focus on the new game mode of creating decks called "Expeditions." These "Expeditions" is the way that Riot Games has found to call its draft mode in which we are building the deck on the fly from the cards that come out in groups of three. At each round the player chooses champions and synergies for those champions until they set up a deck with which to face their opponent.

Each expedition is composed of a maximum of 7 victories and the elimination ensues by losing twice in a row, being able to insert defeats as long as they come succeeded by a victory. Upon reaching the last fight, a sudden death is disputed and the rewards are decided based on how far each expedition has been reached. At the end of the number of weekly expeditions, we can always repeat them but without having access to the rewards. The creation process is quite dynamic and although the interface would appreciate being a little more friendly for the new player, it is easy to get acquainted with it. Entering the expeditions costs 400 coins (just over 3 euros to change) or 4000 fragments, game currency, which are the size of the minimum reward at the end of an expedition. That is, even in the worst case, losing twice in a row just at the beginning, the reward guarantees us to cover the cost of the next expedition.

It is important to add that one can leave an expedition open and resume it at any time, so it is not essential to make all the games in one stroke and that, in principle, each new opponent is in our range of defeats wins and is different from the previous game, even within the same expedition.

Riot Games has confirmed to us an update of more than 40 cards of which we cannot give details right now, a significant number given that Legends of Runeterra is still in the development phase and not in equilibrium. From Thursday at 17 hours and until next Tuesday at the same time, players with access to the game can try this new mode and compete with each other online.
