Naruto is one of the most important manganime of all time. Begun in the pages of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in September 1999, the work of the then very young Masashi Kishimoto featured, like other bets such as One Piece, in the following prodigies called to take the helm of the Jump in the 2000s. Long gone were the Dragon Ball or Slam Dunk; a new era for Shonen was about to begin, one supported by digitization and opening up to the international market with more guarantees of success.

The anime was a response to that interest, and the main western networks, Spain included, were there to bet squarely on the Hidden Village of the Leaf. In total, 220 episodes (of about 20-22 minutes per chapter) originally aired on TV Tokyo from October 2002 to February 2007, nine seasons with the Pierrot studio materializing in color and movement the cartoons of Masashi Kishimoto, original author of the manga comic,

What sagas does Naruto cover (Seasons 1-9)? Which part is canon and which part is filler?

The original Naruto series, directed by Hayato Date under the Pierrot studio on TV Tokyo, adapted the first 27 volumes of the manga (the series has a total of 72; from 28 to 72 is Naruto Shippuden). It should be said, however, that what is told of Naruto in a canonical way is only the first 135 episodes.

Therefore, once you get to episode 135 (Season 4 has just started), Naruto will have ended practically as such (only chapter 97, 99, 101 and chapter 101 to 106 are proper filler). From chapter 136 to 202 they are all filler, a total of 85 episodes with original content, sagas that are not narrated in the manga. Is it recommended to see it? That depends on each. Is its quality high enough to recommend it? Again, these are subjective issues: if you like Naruto a lot, maybe the filler is worth seeing.

If you are interested in seeing only canonical Naruto, in that case you have to watch from episode 1 to 135 with the exceptions mentioned (until the end of the Sasuke Recovery Mission Arc). Likewise, chapters 141, 142 and 220 are canon; There is content that is told in the manga and that we do recommend seeing.

  • Naruto – Canon Episodes: 1 to 96; 98; 100; 107 to 135; 141; 142 and 200.
