Bandai Namco’s Action RPG remains undated, but promises information in spring and previews possible versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
Announced at E3 2019, Tales of Arise is the next installment in the long-running Tales series, a real-time combat RPG series created by Namco in the mid-1990s. Its launch was originally planned for PC, PS4 and One in 2020, but, as in so many other cases, the covid forced the delay to 2021. Now, after a few months of silence, it reappears with a trailer that reuses footage already seen in previous events , but that premieres English dubbing, quotes us for more information in spring and also refers to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
Development almost complete
Precisely the last substantial update, in December of last year, was to ensure that the game was in the last stages of its development. In the words of its producer, Yusuke Tomizawa, Tales of Arise is an ambitious delivery both because of the technical leap it entails (despite coming out on PS4, Tales of Berseria, it was still a game rooted in PS3) and because of its intention to bring the saga to the western public, so the studio wants to ensure an adequate level of quality.
The English dubbing (here it will arrive with translated texts) of the main duo is, therefore, one of those aspects that they seem to want to emphasize. Facing the broader choral casts of past installments, Arise will focus on two characters: Alphen, a boy in an iron mask who has lost both his memory and the ability to feel pain; and Shionne, a young woman with a curse that causes great pain to all who touch her — except Alphen. Both belong to opposing worlds, but they will join forces in an adventure that, according to Namco, aims to reinvent the Tales saga beyond the technical aspects.
To find out more about the story, the combat, the exploration and the possible release date, we have to wait until spring. The trailer concludes by advancing a new event – or trailer – and, if you look at the fine print, also citing the logos of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series despite not being shown above.
If its inclusion alludes to improvements for the PS4 and One versions or to native editions for the new consoles, we will surely know, again, in spring.
