Lauren Hissrich, the showrunner of The Witcher series that will premiere on Netflix on December 20, talks about her first vision of the script.
The new Netflix series, based on the universe of The Witcher, will be released on December 20 and as the date approaches we receive more and more details of how its structure and approach, characters and others will be (in addition to showing one of his first battle scenes). This time it was through an interview that Lauren Hissrich, the showrunner of the series, has granted the official Netflix channel on YouTube. In the more than 11 minutes of duration he explains how in his original approach to the script Ciri was going to be the protagonist and we were going to live the story of the Wizard of Rivia through his eyes.
The original approach of the series of The Witcher
As we have advanced, The Witcher's Netflix adaptation would have been very different if Hissrich had taken the first approach. In this, he presented Ciri as the main focus and storyteller:
"When I started writing that version, I realized that I was not sufficiently considering Geralt's perspective, because Ciri told the story," explains Hissrich. "So it really took me a while to review several versions until I found the final one."
The reason for this approach was due to being based on the fifth book in the Andrzej Sapkowski saga, The Lady of the Lake. However, he felt that something was missing and for that reason he decided to modify the plot's approach in order to distribute the attention between Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer in an equitable way. For this he mainly used the events of the first two novels of the saga: "The Last Wish" and "Sword of Destiny."
From December 20 we will leave doubts and we will have available on Netflix the new series of The Witcher that is raising so much expectation among fans of the saga.
