The fiction based on Andrzej Sapkowski's work will premiere on December 20 on the streaming platform.
Geralt de Rivia is the main protagonist of The Witcher, the saga of novels on which the new Netflix series is based. However, the fiction was about to be starred by Ciri, another key character in the books written by Andrzej Sapkowski, who also participates in the series as a consultant. Netlix, which is already preparing for the premiere, which will take place on December 20, has posted three new trailers on its official YouTube account.
The videos are focused on the three main characters, that is, Geralt de Rivia, Ciri and Yennefer, as well as the actors that give them life, Henry Cavill, Freya Allen and Anya Chalotra, respectively.
Why Ciri is not the protagonist
According to Lauren S. Hissrich, showrunner The Witcher, the initial plan was for the story to flow through Ciri's eyes. However, those initial sketches had to be redefined, since they soon realized that they were not correctly reflecting Geralt's plot.
“When I started writing I noticed that I wasn't getting enough about Geralt and his perspective, because it was narrated by Ciri. That's why it took me a while and I went through different versions, ”said the creative at MCM Comic Con. Anyway, both Ciri and Yennefer continue to have preferential roles in fiction:“ What I wanted to capture was those women before were seen through anyone's eyes. In the books, all the characters are known through Geralt, so you get their feelings; Then you meet them. I wanted the world to see what Ciri was like before. ”
The Witcher of Netflix is composed of a first season of 8 chapters. Before its premiere it was already confirmed that the company had commissioned a second season, still without an announced date.
The series follows the story of Geralt de Rivia, a sorcerer who is dedicated to ending the monsters of the world, always under the commitment of a contract.
