Death Stranding: Star Wars Episode IX director qualifies Kojima as "master"

J.J. Abrams says that the Kojima Productions video game has unique elements and praises the emotional design of the title.

Hideo Kojima returned in November with the new video game of his studio. Death Stranding premiered on PlayStation 4 in November and is already competing in The Game Awards 2019 for the highest award. In an interview with IGN, J.J. Abrams, director of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker got rid of flattery and described the Japanese creative as a "master" of the video game. According to Abrams, Death Stranding is a unique piece that combines music and playability in an emotional experience.

"It's the kind of genre that has a very specific emotional, musical design," said the director. He assures that it is something unique and that he has something special that is perceived in this type of art. "Obviously, some things are familiar to me in a way, but there are other elements that are clearly new," he says.

Kojima, an indie developer?

The protagonist of Death Stranding, Norman Reedus, is one of the presenters of the gala of The Game Awards 2019. It embodies Sam Porter Bridges, a man whose job is to send merchandise from one side to another. However, their task is even more important, as the mission is to reconnect each of the territories of a decomposed United States.

Meanwhile, Hideo Kojima has once again defined itself as an indie developer, in the sense that after his departure from Konami, he was disconnected from any company and recomposed Kojima Productions. He acknowledges that it was hard, but he said it was not as difficult as he expected, because in the end, developing video games is what he does well. On the contrary, he believes that setting up a restaurant would be much more complicated for him.

Death Stranding is available on PS4, although it will go on sale also on PC. It will be done by 505 Games in early summer 2020. A more specific date has not yet been provided.
