Marc Marquez, the reigning MotoGP champion, is set to return to racing this weekend at the Italian Grand Prix, following a two-week recovery period after injuring his right foot and shoulder at Le Mans.
The Ducati rider has been training normally over the past few days, focusing on testing his physical condition and sensations aboard the Desmosedici GP, as he prepares to face the demanding Mugello circuit.
Return to Racing
Marquez underwent a double operation on May 10 to address the fracture of the fifth metatarsal of his right foot and to remove a screw from a previous operation that was causing occasional pain in the radial nerve of his right shoulder.
Although the operations were successful, Marquez and his team are proceeding with caution, with the rider set to undergo a final medical check with the championship’s medical director, Angel Charte, at the circuit.
Challenges Ahead
The Italian Grand Prix will be a challenging event for Marquez, as the Mugello circuit is known for being particularly demanding on riders, with its high-speed corners and physically demanding layout.
However, Marquez is looking forward to the support of the Ducatisti, the fans of the Ducati team, which will provide him with extra motivation to perform well, as the historic brand celebrates its centenary this weekend with a special livery on its bikes.
Physical Condition
Marquez has been working on his physical condition, posting videos on social media of him lifting weights with his right arm, although he has not been seen riding a motorcycle, either on track or in motocross, as the pain in his radial nerve only reappears when he is at the handlebars of his MotoGP bike.
As Marquez returns to racing, he will be looking to test his physical condition and sensations on the bike, while also navigating the challenges of the Mugello circuit, in what promises to be an exciting and closely watched event.
