Haas F1 Team is expected to be a major player in the forthcoming “silly season” as over half the drivers have their contracts expiring at the end of 2026, including Haas duo Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon.
Contract Expirations and Driver Market
The team’s decision on its 2027 driver lineup is anticipated to be made around May, June, or July, according to team boss Ayao Komatsu, who stated that “everybody’s looking at next year’s drivers” and it’s not just Haas that is considering its options.
Komatsu’s comments come amid speculation surrounding Ocon’s seat, which is at risk for 2027 due to his inconsistent performance since joining the team in 2025, despite being a major coup for Haas with over 100 grand prix starts, a victory, and four career podiums.
Ocon’s Performance and Future
Ocon has been outperformed by his sophomore teammate Bearman, who finished three points ahead of him in 2025 and has increased the gap in 2026, raising questions about Ocon’s ability to be a strong partner for Bearman in the future.
When asked if he would keep both drivers if he had to decide today, Komatsu declined to answer, stating that it would create unnecessary speculation and instead focused on Bearman, who has been impressive in his rookie season.
Ocon’s struggles continued at the Canadian Grand Prix, where he finished outside of the points in 14th, while Bearman scored points with a 10th-place finish, further highlighting the gap between the two drivers.
Haas’ Options for 2027
Haas could consider signing a Ferrari youngster, such as reigning F3 champion Rafael Camara, or reserve driver Jack Doohan, who brings sponsorship money, but the team’s increased competitiveness may lead them to prioritize a stronger driver lineup.
Komatsu’s experience working with world champions like Fernando Alonso may influence his decision, as he seeks two equally strong drivers who can take the team forward together, leaving Ocon’s future with Haas uncertain.
Looking Ahead to 2027
As the 2026 season progresses, Haas will be closely watched as they navigate the driver market and make decisions about their 2027 lineup, with the goal of building a strong and competitive team.
The upcoming “silly season” is expected to be intense, with several teams, including Haas, looking to make changes and improve their chances of success in the highly competitive world of Formula 1.
