Iker Lecuona will step onto the MotoGP grid at the Hungarian Grand Prix, filling the seat vacated by the injured Alex Marquez for Gresini Racing.
Back on the premier‑class stage
The Spanish rider’s appearance marks his first MotoGP start since the Qatar finale in 2023, where he substituted for Alex Rins with LCR Honda. After two seasons with KTM in the premier class, Lecuona switched to WorldSBK on a Honda in 2022 and is currently a title contender, sitting second in the 2026 WorldSBK standings. This weekend’s Hungarian round will also be his debut on a Ducati machine.
Marquez sidelined by Catalan crash
Alex Marquez suffered a serious tumble during the Catalan Grand Prix on 17 May, forcing him to miss the Mugello event and subsequently the Balaton Park circuit. Gresini Racing confirmed the lineup change, announcing that Lecuona, race number 27, will replace Marquez, number 73, for the eighth round of the season.
Additional wild‑card entries
Cal Crutchlow will remain on the LCR Honda roster after a one‑off appearance at Mugello, where he covered for the injured Johann Zarco. The 40‑year‑old Briton, returning to MotoGP for the first time since 2023, retired from his Mugello effort with a shoulder issue.
With both Gresini and LCR looking to stabilize their line‑ups, the Hungarian Grand Prix promises a competitive field as replacement riders aim to prove their pace.
