Maverick Vinales has declared that his shoulder will heal completely and that he should not need to persuade anyone of his worthiness for a 2027 MotoGP seat.
Injury saga and recent on‑track performance
The Tech3 rider suffered a violent high‑side crash during German Grand Prix qualifying in July 2025, damaging his left shoulder. After a first operation, lingering pain forced his withdrawal from Austin, followed by a second surgery that sidelined him for Jerez and Le Mans.
He re‑appeared in Barcelona in May 2026 but managed only an 11th place in Catalonia, his sole points finish this year. Persistent weakness in shoulder muscles continues to limit his pace.
Contract prospects amid a tight rider market
With KTM already locking in Alex Marquez and Fabio di Giannantonio for the factory line‑up, the two remaining Tech3 seats are contested by Vinales, Brad Binder and Senna Agius. Although originally earmarked as the successor to Ducati‑bound Pedro Acosta, Vinales’ form dip and injury have prompted KTM to look outward for its 2027 lineup.
When asked about his 2027 destination, the Spaniard replied that no decision has been made and he cannot reveal details, while insisting his shoulder issue will not dictate his future.
Recovery timetable and next targets
Vinales stated that the Red Bull Athlete Performance Centre has confirmed a 100 % recovery is achievable, despite seven months without full use of the affected muscles. He aims to be at full strength for the Czech Grand Prix in Brno on 21 June, using the two weeks after the Mugello race to rebuild power and bike handling.
“Mugello helped improve my strength on the machine,” he said, adding that he feels refreshed after a demanding weekend and will assess his condition on Friday before focusing on the upcoming training block.
