Maverick Vinales stormed to the front of commentary when he accused KTM of putting his MotoGP future in jeopardy, a claim Tech3 chief Guenther Steiner said was not only unwise but possibly harmful to the rider’s career.
During the Czech GP last weekend, Vinales suggested that KTM had left him “in limbo” about a 2027 factory seat, then intensified his criticism at Assen, asserting that the Austrian manufacturer alone would be liable if he found himself without a contract next year.
Steiner countered that the rider’s words were given minefield timing and that, under the clause in Vinales’s agreement that expires at the end of June, the Spanish cyclist remains bound to the KTM stable until the end of 2026, giving KTM first rights in 2027.
Tactical Shake‑Up at Tech3
Amid the tension, Tech3 is preparing a fresh 2027 lineup. Enea Bastianini is slated to join Trackhouse, while negotiations are underway with Honda’s Luca Marini and possibly rookie Senna Agius for the other slot.
Vinales himself admitted that his chances of staying with the French team appear slim after being excluded from a recent Pirelli test, a move the rider interprets as a clear signal that he will not be retained next season.
Performance and Future Outlook
While Vinales missed early races following shoulder surgery, the past season’s inconsistent results have compounded the uncertainty surrounding his future. Tech3 and KTM, however, have shown a willingness to evaluate his current form before making a final decision for 2027.
With the contract deadline approaching, the pressure mounts on Tech3 to secure an unblemished rider path, as Vinales faces the possibility of an uncharted season ahead.
