GTA 6 Nintendo Switch 2 has been confirmed as a development priority, with insiders citing completed technical challenges.
GTA 6 Pre‑orders Flood the Market
Rockstar’s new title hit the market yesterday, and pre‑orders are already worth over $3 billion worldwide. Players on PS5 and Xbox are adding the game to their libraries in anticipation of the November 12 launch date, which precedes the official release on November 19.
Switch 2 Port in the Works, VICE Reports
VICE’s latest scoop, sourced from insider Nash Weedle, claims the Nintendo Switch 2 version is progressing fast. “All technical hurdles have been overcome,” Weedle posted on X, indicating that a dedicated development team has solved the major architecture issues that previously stalled the port.
Subcontractors Accelerate the Project
Weedle’s post also revealed that Rockstar has outsourced key elements of the port to external studios. These specialists are handling custom optimizations, ensuring the game runs smoothly on the Switch 2’s hardware while maintaining core gameplay elements.
Release Date Points to 2027
The insider says the Switch 2 version won’t launch alongside the global debut. The team expects a 2027 release, potentially aligning with the PC port that Rockstar is discussing as it plans to launch GTA 6 only on PS5, Xbox, and PC.
Multiplayer Prospects and Feature Expectations
With Nintendo recently raising prices for its online add‑on service, speculation rises about granting Switch 2 players access to GTA 6’s multiplayer mode. However, visual fidelity and performance will likely be scaled back, following patterns seen in the PC and console releases and the iPhone port of Death Stranding.
Choosing the Right Edition for Switch 2 Fans
If the handheld receives a dedicated version, players will need to decide between Standard and Ultimate editions. Each offers varying content bonuses, and while official confirmation from Rockstar or Nintendo is pending, the dedicated fanbase will be ready to weigh in.
