Lewis Hamilton Apologizes After “Attitude” Moments in Hungarian GP Qualifying

Lewis Hamilton issues apology following Hungarian GP qualifying "attitude"

Lewis Hamilton issued an apology for his heated reaction after a frustrating qualifying session at the Hungarian Grand Prix, following a 3‑place grid penalty.

Penalty Revelation

Hamilton had earned the second‑grid spot, trailing only Lando Norris, before a red‑flag radio call arrived late. The delay meant the Formula One driver was unaware of Oscar Piastri weaving past Turn 1 on a push lap, leading to an inadvertent impediment.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur accepted responsibility for the miscommunication, confirming the penalty was a direct result of the delayed warning.

Hamilton’s Response

In the drivers’ parade, the seven‑time world champion bowed his head and stated, “Forgive me for my attitude after qualifying, because I’d done such a great session, and then got the call that Piastri was behind me right at the last minute.”

He added, “Yesterday was difficult. To then know I was going to get a penalty was tough to swallow, but it is what it is. We move forward, and I’ll give absolutely everything I can for the team today.”

Hamilton also remarked on the heat, strategy hurdles and his aim to fight for a race win despite the setback.

Other Grid Adjustments

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli was handed a 3‑place grid penalty for failing to reduce speed under a yellow flag. The Australian will now start from seventh.

Starting Grid Overview

Pole position is held by Lando Norris, with team‑mate Charles Leclerc in second. Max Verstappen, Oscar Piastri and Hamilton will occupy the remaining top‑five positions.

Race Outlook

The Hungaroring’s notoriously low overtaking areas mean strategy will be decisive. Hamilton accepts the challenge, expressing willingness to push hard for a victory from fifth place while acknowledging the condition that overtake opportunities are scarce.
