Audi Unveils New F1 Campus to Boost Formula 1 Operations

Audi announces plans for new F1 campus

Audi’s Formula 1 team has unveiled a long‑term development plan that includes a brand‑new campus on Zurichstrasse, near the established Hinwil factory in Switzerland.

Campus Timeline and 2030 Vision

Elements of the new campus began operations in summer 2026, with full completion slated for 2030, according to team officials.

Historical Roots and Investment Upgrades

Peter Sauber founded the team in 1970, using Hinwil as its base. After running Mercedes’ sports‑car programme in the 1980s, the team entered Formula 1 in 1993. BMW bought the outfit in 2005 before selling it back in 2009, after which Audi gradually took control, finalising full ownership in January 2005.

Since the BMW exit, the facility lived on a shoestring budget, prompting major capital injections to modernise both the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) cluster and the wind tunnel. The tunnel itself was originally financed by funds received from Mercedes after releasing Kimi Raikkonen from Sauber to McLaren in 2002, and it will remain in use despite the Wildbachstrasse redevelopment.

The engine‑development hub will stay in Neuberg, while a satellite office in Bicester will continue to support recruitment of skilled staff unwilling or unable to relocate to Switzerland.

Future Workforce and Global Footprint

Team principal Mattia Binotto highlighted that the campus is “essential for attracting and retaining world‑class talent.” He stressed that the new environment will “allow engineers, designers, mechanics and specialists to collaborate, innovate and perform at their highest level.”

Binotto also praised the Municipality of Hinwil for its support, adding that the campus “is an important part of the journey to shape the future of the Audi Revolut F1 Team from the ground up.”

With the campus in place, Audi’s F1 division is poised to write the next chapter of its Swiss‑based heritage.
