Mika Hakkinen returned to the F1 cockpit today at the Allwyn x McLaren Racing: Live in Athens event outside the Olympic Athletic Center (OAKA).
Event Highlights
The former McLaren driver will steer the iconic MP4/6 around a bespoke track layout, with fans queued for simulators that mirror the experience of the 2025 constructors‑champion MCL39.
“We’re going to have a show run here; you can see the car that I’m going to drive tomorrow. It has like 700 horsepower. It’s about 500 kilos,” Hakkinen told the crowd, underscoring the power‑to‑weight ratio that made the historic machine a legend.
Heritage Ride
The MP4/6 was McLaren’s first car powered by a 3.5‑litre Honda V12, delivering 725 horsepower at 13,500 rpm. It won the 1991 constructors title and saw Ayrton Senna capture his third drivers’ crown.
Future Machines
Fans will also witness the 2025 MCL39, which secured 14 of 24 rounds for Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, earning McLaren its 10th constructors championship.
McLaren chief marketing officer Louise McEwan said the partnership with Allwyn brings the team “closer to them” amid Greece’s growing fan base, reiterating that fans remain central to McLaren Racing’s strategy.
The day also promised appearances by other former F1 drivers, modern and heritage show cars, and dedicated fan zone experiences, enriching the atmosphere for motorsport enthusiasts.
