We play the first Borderlands 3 DLC: Moxxi's blow to Jackpot the Handsome and we bring you our impressions; Now available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Gearbox are known for bringing us large DLCs that extend each of the deliveries of the Borderlands saga once the main title release has taken place. The case of Borderlands 3 is no different, since three months after the arrival of the title on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Google Stadia provide us with an expansion called “The Moxxi coup to Jackpot the Handsome”. Then we leave our impressions after playing a few hours and finishing the DLC that concerns us.
An order for Moxxi
To get into the expansion it will be necessary to have passed episode 5 of the main story and have at least level 13. In our case we recommend you complete the plot completely before accepting the mission offered by Moxxi, since in the Jackpot el Guapo casino expect many rewards that will come in handy in the game's end-game. In addition, we remember that the level of the enemies (and the loot we get) adapts to that of our character, so the longer we take to go, the better rewards we can get.
On the other hand, once the Borderlands 3 story is over and as part of the multiple options offered by the end-game, Chaos Mode will be unlocked. We can activate it from the Sanctuary and it is recommended for those cameras that want to face a greater challenge and get better rewards to overcome it. Because we are waiting for a lot of loot in the casino we are heading to, Chaos Mode is a good option (it can be deactivated at any time).
Once we decide to start the adventure proposed by the DLC, we must go to the Moxxi bar on board our ship and observe a sign to the left of the entrance. There he details that the mission "Jackpot the Handsome" will take us to an abandoned casino that was founded by Jack the Handsome himself and inside which both employees and customers were trapped … and many dockers (a type of robots in Borderlands). After talking with our favorite barista to offer us extra details about the order, we can go to the Sanctuary navigation panel in order to set course for a new space station: Jackpot el Guapo.
A cinematic starring Jack the Handsome will welcome us to the casino and remind us why it was so pleasant to end his life at the end of Borderlands 2. Even so, his ghost is still present in every opulent element of the casino, a place in the that money is the most important and whose visitors were trapped inside because of the huge debts they accumulated.
New locations to explore and characters to meet
The DLC that concerns us surprises with its amount of content. When we first enter the casino we can think that the new explorable area is reduced to the casino area itself, but nothing is further from the truth. The locations offered by Jackpot el Guapo range from luxurious rooms full of slot machines to Basuralantis, an area where those who want to live in peace take refuge in a place where everyone, humans and robots, seems to want to kill you to stay with your money.
Throughout the approximately 4 hours of the expansion (they can be extended much more if we carry out all the secondary missions available) we will meet new characters and we will meet again with others already known from previous deliveries of the Borderlands saga. An example of this is Timothy Lawrence, one of the doubles that Jack had in Handsome when he was alive. Despite being similar in appearance, their intentions cannot be more opposite to those of the evil being original.
In Tim's case, he just wants to survive and start a new life, but it won't be until our arrival when he will decide to take action. Following the indications of Moxxi and Timothy, we must go through all the casino areas in order to gather a team to help us hit the ball and snatch the control tower from the place called “Don Guapetón” (it is not handsome, by the way).
On the one hand we have Ember, a fierce warrior with a French accent who loves fire and explosions. We also know Freddie, an eccentric dock mechanic with a questionable taste for fashion. Finally, the mayor of Basuralantis also joins the mission after helping him free his city with the assistance of a series of annoying robots that will be very familiar to us. Once we are all gathered in Timothy's hiding place, it will be time to take action.
Weapons, enemies and much loot
Like any good content of Borderlands worth its salt, Moxxi's blow to Jackpot the Handsome will grant us a good handful of new weapons. We remind you that they are generated randomly, so we cannot indicate exactly what type of weaponry we will take with our looting to the casino but we do warn that there are a number of specific locations such as VIP Lounges and large chests that contain more special loot.
In addition to weapons, we can also double our savings by emptying all the slot machines that we see in the various areas and continue adding dollars. We will also find various containers and streaks of eridium in order to expand our counter of this valuable material, which serves to obtain valuable equipment aboard the Sanctuary. Of course, it is likely that part of these revenues that we obtain in the casino will end up disappearing when we die in the battles we face.
Enemies known as ratch, humans and stevedores will attack us just to see us, but the distinguishing point of the DLC is to expand these types of enemies and provide them with new attacks and characteristics. For example, in the case of stevedores robots we will face a fairly large number of variants, which have by name and type: ICE (ice attacks), HOT (fire attacks), RPG, etc. As for human enemies, some will come to meet us as "Malay bombastic callus" or "plunder." As you can see, the characteristic humor of the saga is not lost at any time.

"Moxxi's blow to Jackpot the Handsome" is a great expansion for Borderlands 3, which will please all those who were left wanting more at the end of the game's main story. We can explore new and diverse locations, get weapons and loot, face new enemies and meet characters that can become part of our favorites list.
Despite some bugs that we find, such as getting caught while trying to stop by jumping down the side of a hill or seeing how enemies appear and disappear suddenly if we observe them from a distance, it is nothing that can not be fixed with a future patch In general, technically it remains the same as seen and played in the main game and in the sound section it stands out just as the saga has accustomed us.
The DLC is now available for PC (Epic Games Store), PS4, Xbox One and Google Stadia. A content that we can enjoy both alone and in the company of other cameras and that will allow us to know more about the Moxxi lore, in addition to unlocking new locations and multiple options to expand the Borderlands 3 universe even more.
