DualShock 5 Controller – patent describes the built-in microphone

Another patent from Sony has emerged that shows an improved version of the built-in microphone in the DualShock 5 controller of the PS5.

According to the patent, the microphone is able to process different voice commands and to mute disturbing noises around it, even from the controller itself, such as button inputs, etc.

It has long been suspected that the DualShock 5 controller has such a microphone. In this context, there have also been reports of a PlayStation voice assistant, similar to the Google Assistant, which can understand and process more complex inputs. Integrating such a feature into games and increasingly working with voice commands would be something new, even if there were already some approaches in this area.

On the PS4, voice commands have so far only been possible from the PlayStation Camera or a connected microphone, which can be used to switch off the console, among other things. Moving this to the DualShock 5 controller by default could result in the feature being used extensively by the players.
