Crazy BMX World, Switch review. Fun within reach of all budgets

Crazy BMX World comes to Nintendo Switch with a very groundbreaking price and addictive gameplay. A title to consider for the Nintendo hybrid.

Shinyuden brings us on this occasion to the Nintendo hybrid —Nintendo Switch— a super addictive video game and also at a very low price, something that is beginning to be the watchword of the Spanish-Japanese house. This same year we analyzed in this house another work published by Shinyuden, Heroes Trials, and we commented that after playing it, it gave us a déjà vu to Terra Incognita, the “Yaroze title” of PlayStation.

With Crazy BMX World, the video game that concerns us today, another production has also come to mind, that of Roll7, OlliOlli. With such a high bar it remains to be seen if Spicysoft’s product lives up to expectations, right?

Simple fun

It is almost a utopia that in the middle of 2020 and with control knobs of more than ten buttons, video games are still being launched that only require a single button. The case of Crazy BMX World has a bit of a trap since its origin is in mobile devices, so having only one action button is very comfortable. Even so, little joke with the video game because, as stated on its website, more than 27 million users with mobile phones, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U have been able to enjoy it. Now it comes to the half-living room, half-portable console with a single goal; continue to captivate audiences.

Crazy BMX World

Crazy BMX World is simple both in mechanics and execution, although it is another thing to master it perfectly. In the video game we ride a cross bike while we travel through 295 screens distributed in 7 worlds dodging problems and jumping on platforms. The goal is simple; go through all the screens from the start area to the end collecting coins without falling into the void.

Although it seems an easy task, it is not at all because the platforms, jumps, falls and elements of the environment are measured very badly. There are several objects that can help us in our task but even so, precision plays an important role when reaching the goal.

To give you an idea of how Crazy BMX World works, imagine a two-dimensional scenario with lateral scrolling from right to left in which platforms, falls and obstacles appear that we must overcome by jumping with the bicycle if we want to reach the goal alive. Simple but very addictive.

At the beginning of the Reviews we told you about Olli Olli, a great skater-themed title where we traveled from one end of the screen to another avoiding obstacles while doing tricks with the skateboard. Be that as it may, Crazy BMX World has reminded us a bit of him in sensations but also in graphic terms, with a very nice and minimalist drawing style but at the same time full of colors. Also with a retro touch.

As we have mentioned, there are 295 screens in total and although at the beginning it is somewhat easy, things get complicated at times, perhaps too much, although we already talked about the final stretch. There are a total of 40 suits for our protagonist cyclist with which to change a bit of scenery and the way to get them is through a gashapon machine. You know, the one where you put a euro and a surprise ball comes out. It is not something that we like very much but there it is and also the “runs” are achieved quite well.

Crazy BMX World also has two game modes which are Tour Mode and Grand Prix. The first is an arcade of a lifetime while in the second we try to know what pasta we are made of by participating in infinite scenarios. The objective of this mode is to achieve the highest score in the world leaderboard and we assure you that it is very engaging.

A lot for little money

Surely in the technical Crazy BMX World does not enter through the eyes but it is that you cannot ask much more from a video game that costs three euros. It has simple and straightforward graphics but very effective. It is powerful to look at, varied and colorful. Each of the worlds is themed enough to be recognized at first glance and has additional details that make them unique. Animations are not a panacea but once again, what is available is effective and does its job.

Little joke with the soundtrack that although it is not particularly extensive, it does surprise a lot with some of its musical themes. In addition, the texts are translated into Spanish —and other languages— so you will know in everything what the video game has to tell us.

If you have three euros or points left in the Nintendo Switch eShop, you should give Crazy BMX World a try because so little can never give you so much. However, it must be recognized that so many screens and the few mechanics that are in each one of them can make it somewhat monotonous.

CONCLUSION

As we say, little can be asked of a game so fun and addictive that only costs 3 euros. It is not the panacea, nor does it invent the wheel, but it fulfills its mission and exceeds it; entertain. Also thanks to its agile phases and the suspension function of the console we can enjoy it at any time. A bit heavy in the end but may only look like it to some players.

THE BEST

  • Its price, a real bargain.
  • Addictive like few others.
  • The soundtrack is really good.

WORST

  • A bit stiff in duration.
  • Graphically somewhat pocho.

Okay

It meets the expectations of what a good game is, has quality and does not present serious flaws, although it is missing elements that could have taken it to higher heights.
