Without question, Sony continues to research the PlayStation VR technology, even if it is not yet clear whether there will really be another headset. If so, you want to use it to solve as many problems as possible that you have learned from the past few years.
A current patent from Sony therefore describes some design changes that are intended to rule out the possibility of errors in use, including placement on the head. Using ultrasound transducers and "fail-proof", the position of the eyes is determined by ultrasound signals and reflections. The reduction in reflections on the eye itself is also described.
“The HMD also includes a sensor for detecting reflections of the ultrasound signals that are emitted by the ultrasound transducers. In some embodiments, the ultrasound transducers act as sensors. That is, the ultrasound transducers can be configured to both transmit ultrasound signals and receive reflections therefrom. The reflections of the ultrasound signals can be used to create an image of the user's eye. ”
Furthermore, the patent mentions wireless transmission for audio and video signals, which suggests once again that Sony actually wants to do without various cables with PlayStation VR 2.
The extent to which the patent will ultimately be used must also be waited for in this case.
