Although the PS5 has a UHD drive, Sony also seems to want to opt for cartridges. So a few days ago, a corresponding patent has appeared, which already caused many speculations. An update of the patent in Japan underpins the plans now but also in addition.
Thus, the new patent from SIE Japan describes a chip with 8 connectors – the description in addition to the fact that the cartridge is used specifically in a gaming system. It says:
"This is a recording medium on which various data can be recorded, e.g. A character, a picture, an animation, a sound and a program. By loading through the console provided by the game console, where multiple pins of that cartridge were provided, the various data recorded on that cartridge can be read. "
It remains to be seen whether this cartridge actually belongs to the PS5, because as the initial consoles have shown, the costs for this type of medium are considerably higher than for a disc. Maybe this is not synonymous PS5 meant and Sony works in addition to one another device / handheld that is being developed away from PlayStation.
