Rockstar Leeds co-founder Gordon Hall dies (GTA: Chinatown Wars)

The developer has died at the age of 51, although the causes of death have not been specified.

Gordon Hall, one of the founders of Rockstar Leeds, has died. The developer, who died at the age of 51, left the company long ago, but has worked on many of the North American company’s titles. “Gordon was just brilliant, incredibly motivating and even positive,” said Martyn Brown, head of business development at Five Aces Publishing and co-founder of Team17. “His quest for excellence was amazing and he formed a great bond of trust with everyone who decided to work (hard) alongside him.

Brown says he was a “close friend” and an inspiration. He maintains that he was an energetic person and capable of entertaining everyone. “We will miss Gordon very much and sadly,” he lamented.

Hall’s career began with the founding of Möbius Entertainment in 1997, a developer who worked on various titles for the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance. After working on the GBA version of Max Payne, Rockstar Games acquired the company and renamed it Rockstar Leeds. Under his leadership, the team collaborated with other company studios and designed titles such as Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories or GTA: Chinatown Wars.

Sabbatical years and return to the industry

In his final stage at Rockstar, Gordon Hall moved to Rockstar San Diego in 2009, with the aim of continuing to shape the development of Red Dead Redemption, one of the best-known titles of the North American company. However, between 2011 and 2013 he decided to take a break and left the video game industry. Later he returned as CCO of Activision Blizzard Mobile. His death is survived by his son Jason.

Rockstar Games is part of Take-Two Interactive, one of the most powerful third party software companies alongside Ubisoft and Electronic Arts. Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V are his most recent productions to date. At the moment a new generation version of this latest game is confirmed.
